Associations between music and aromas have long been made, something science is starting to map and confirm
Scents, like sounds, appear to influence the olfactory nerve in certain degrees. There is, as it were, an octave of odors like an octave in music; certain odors coincide, like the keys of an instrument.
Over 150 years after the perfumer Septimus Piesse made these observations in his book, The Art of Perfumery, studies have confirmed that we do consistently match certain pitches with types of aroma. And these are pairings that can be used to expand our enjoyment of wine
