Seeing Sound, Hearing Krug (Pt 1)
Hot off a trip to Tokyo where I experienced Krug’s latest musical collaboration with Ryuichi Sakamoto, I explore some of the extensive sound projects undertaken by the legendary Champagne house
When an invitation of Goliath proportions arrived from Champagne Krug to join them for the Tokyo premiere of Seeing Sound, Hearing Krug, I was fizzing with a similarly super-sized excitement. I’ve been following Krug’s journey into wine and sound with great interest; this spans curating playlists for individual Champagnes to inviting composers and musicians to respond to them through creating new works and immersive experiences. The collaborator in this instance was Ryuichi Sakamoto. I’m a great admirer of Sakamoto’s varied work, and felt his sensitive approach to film soundtracks boded well for the partnership.
